DiverseCity Tours: A Visit to Olvera Street!

IMG_0878

This past Saturday, Cultural Affairs Commission’s DiverseCity Tours hosted an amazing trip to Olvera Street for an early celebration of Día de los Muertos! For those that have never been, Olvera Street is a center for Mexican and Spanish heritage in Downtown LA. It’s an area full of historical buildings, colorful shops, eclectic vendors, and incredible food! Those who attended the event were able to explore the eye-catching street and enjoy some of the best Mexican food in the country, including the taquitos with avocado sauce from Cielito Lindo, which come highly recommended by several of the attendees. Best of all, they were able to observe a parade in honor of Día de los Muertos and to enjoy the wonderful costumes and spirit of all those who participated.  In honor of the event, many were lucky enough to have their faces painted in the skeleton-like style characteristic of the Día de los Muertos celebration, and to blend in with the culture of the street for a night! It was a truly wonderful night, and since it was the first of many DiverseCity Tours to come this year, you won’t want to miss out on the next one!

Pac Div, Thurz, & Dizzy Wright at El Rey, 3/9

We know that Hip Hop Appreciation Month is technically over. But let’s be real…hip hop, it don’t stop.

So in keeping the HHAM spirit alive y’all should go check out this dope show at El Rey Theatre this Friday, March 9th featuring Pac Div, Thurz, and Diggy Wright.

Pac Div and Thurz have both been part of the CAC’s journey and some of the best acts we’ve had the pleasure of working with. Pac Div was just at UCLA last week for Hip Hop Explosion and those of you who came out already know that they THROW DOWN on the stage. And Thurz has performed at the Hip Hop Congress’ fashion show in 2009 and 2010, as well as Can You Hear Us Now in 2011. He’s an incredible artist who really embraces the conscious and impactful lyricism of hip hop and brings both heart and hype to the stage.

Trust us, you don’t want to miss this show! 16+ for all you youngins. $25, tickets on sale now at www.dreamurbanclothing.eventbrite.com.
