Art Exhibit: Pilipino American History Month, Oct. 5-9

Art Series — By on October 5, 2009 8:27 pm

October is Pilipino American History Month, and we’re celebrating the heritage and culture of Pilipino Americans and their amazing contributions. With more than 2,900,000 Americans of Philippine ancestry currently living in the United States, we want to pay homage to the Pilipino-Americans that have been a unique part of the American experience and have remained resolute and steadfast in the face of many difficult times and challenges.

Remember, reflect, and celebrate this time by visiting the Pilipino American History Month Art Exhibition, on display at the Kerckhoff Art Gallery this week, Monday, October 5, to Friday, October 9, 2009. Samahang Pilipino at UCLA presents the display of 47 canvases, the menagerie of colors and textures a testament to the similarly colorful history that they aim to encapsulate. The paintings range from traditional Pilipino dance to the recent Typhoon Parma in the Philippines.

The exhibit features artwork from local and international artists:
Susanito “Sonny Boy” Sarnate
Rodney Martinez
Rick Bergancia
Loralei Rose Bingamon
Rafael Maniago
Rommel Clavecillas
Revo Yanson
Fred Juson
Lor Sumagaysay
